چکیده

This paper will describe aspects relating the modelling of a mixed-signal system with the aim to describe the system in a single language prior to any detailed implementation strategy. With reference to a communications system modelling case study, VHDL-AMS, an extension to the industry standard VHDL Hardware Description Language (HDL) for digital circuits and systems, will be used. Recently, the analogue and mixed-signal extension to VHDL has been under consideration and development as an IEEE standard (1076.1-1999), capable of modelling and enabling the simulation of analogue, mixed-signal and mixed-technology systems. Together with VHDL (1076-1993), the extension is referred to as VHDL-AMS. This has come @om the electronics industry, which have encompassed the VHDL language as a means to describe digital circuits and systems, and enabling the initial design of integrated circuits (ICs) independent of any fabrication process. The extension allows the modelling of simulation of the digital circuitkystem as well as the non-digital electronic, electrical and non-electrical environment in which the circuits are to operate.

Approximate solution of system of nonlinear Volterra integro-differential equations by using Bernstein collocation method

This paper presents a numerical matrix method based on Bernstein polynomials (BPs) for approximate the solution of a system of m-th order nonlinear Volterra integro-differential equations under initial conditions. The approach is based on operational matrices of BPs. Using the collocation points, this approach reduces the systems of Volterra integro-differential equations associated with the giv...

Behavioral Modeling and Simulation of Semiconductor Devices and Circuits Using VHDL-AMS

During the past few years, a lot of work has been done on behavioral models and simulation tools. But a need for modeling strategy still remains. The VHDL-AMS language supports the description of analog electronic circuits using Ordinary Differential Algebraic Equations (ODAEs), in addition to its support for describing discrete-event systems. For VHDL-AMS to be useful to the analog design ...

High order cascade multibit σΔ modulator for wide bandwidth applications

A wideband 2-1-1 cascaded ΣΔ modulator with a single-bit quantizer in the two first stages and a 4-bit quantizer in the final stage is developed. To reduce sensitivity of digital-to-analog converter (DAC) nonlinearities in the feedback of the last stage, dynamic element matching (DEM) is introduced. This paper presents two modelling approaches: The first is MATLAB description and the second is ...

VHDL-AMS: The Missing Link in System Design - Experiments with Unified Modelling in Automotive Engineering

After the IEEE ballot accepted the first draft language reference manual for VHDL-AMS (IEEE PAR 1076.1) in October 1997, we now can spend time and effort on applying the new arising methodology to real world problems outside the electronic domain. In automotive engineering we have system design problems dealing with hydraulic or mechanic components and their controlling units, for which we expe...
